Intergenerational Future Narrative card game

2023

Bridge 2040 is a card game that fosters collaboration between children and senior citizens to create future narratives, bridging generations. Initially designed for intergenerational workshops, it has since expanded to innovation workshops for creative entrepreneurs and academic institutions.

Addressing the societal issue of limited decision-making power—where seniors feel disconnected from modern advancements in technology and society, and children are considered too young to contribute—Bridge 2040 gives both generations a voice in shaping future dialogues. It combines the value of seniors' experience with the fresh, unbiased perspectives of children.

Players create stories about diverse fictional characters living in 2040, ranging from a 7-year-old who rejects gender norms to a 102-year-old grandmother who travels the world in a wheelchair. The game introduces evolving trends in city planning, technology, health, migration, economy, relationships, and more, through simple, digestible questions and information.

To ensure accessibility, Bridge 2040 uses a playful, technology-free approach with easy-to-understand language. As a winning project of the company-internal ideas competition Ars Electronica Futurelab Ideas Expedition 2023, the game has since been used in workshops with companies and organizations such as Toyota Coniq Alpha, Civic Creative Base Tokyo (CCBT), the Matsudo International Science Art Festival, and more.
